  College & Career Readiness

The ACT

The ACT is a nationally recognized college entrance exam used by most colleges  and universities to make admission decisions. The ACT is also often used to determine scholarships and financial aid eligibility. To be eligible for graduation, all students, free of charge, must participate in Nevada's College and Career Readiness (CCR) assessment during their junior year of high school on the day selected for testing. The Nevada State Board of Education chose the ACT as Nevada's CCR assessment. The common testing day for the 2018-2019 school year is March 12th, 2019.

Students can also choose to register and take additional ACT tests at a testing center. For more information go to www.actstudent.org. Be sure to visit the career center for a free ACT study guide, or the SRHS library for test prep books.

The SAT
The SAT is a multiple choice college entrance exam administered by The College Board. The purpose of the SAT is to measure a student's readiness for college. The SAT is not required for high school graduation in the state of Nevada; however, you should check with your colleges of interest to see if it is required or recommended for admission or financial aid. Most students take the SAT for the first time in the spring of their junior year of high school.

For more information, including cost and upcoming testing dates go to collegeboard.org. Be sure to visit the career center for a free SAT study guide, or the SRHS library for test prep books.

The ASVAB

The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command. The ASVAB is highly suggested for any student interested in a potential career in the armed forces.

Another benefit to taking the ASVAB is it is a good evaluation for students interested in their abilities and what occupations or careers they might consider pursuing in the future, whether in the military or private workforce.

The ASVAB is given at no cost, one time per year, at SRHS. If you are interested in learning more about future testing dates, please visit the College & Career Center, or go to official-asvab.com.
